Internet Hiatus

"Wherever you are, be all there." —Jim Elliott

In case you haven't heard about it yet, I'm embarking on a bit of an internet hiatus. This will be my last post for a while. It's time for me to go offline.

It's not that I don't enjoy blogging and keeping up with other people's blogs. I really do. Both parts of the process are rewarding, and I'll miss it. But maybe that's the point. I need to miss the online world for a while. Because lately I've been missing even more.

The problem is that I've developed a bit of an unhealthy connection to the capital-i Internet lately, and it's interfering with my IRL relationships and creative energy. I found myself checking my phone every few minutes, literally waiting for updates, and slowly losing my sense of pacing—as well as my patience. Besides that, my online time has deteriorated from purposeful meals to vegetative grazing. I'd consume anything and everything placed in front of me. Not exactly a smart mental diet. In addition to all that (and this is probably the most important reason for the hiatus), I've been reading online so much that I haven't been reading the important stuff. My Bible. My poets. My own journal.

So, in the interest of reminding myself of the importance of writing with pen and paper, soaking in every moment as it happens (i.e., without attempting to document it instantaneously), and being more aware of my tangible physical surroundings, I'm going to unplug for a while.

See you guys in a bit. Don't do anything too interesting while I'm offline.
